Director of Operations
About the role
About ProBuilt Hawaii ProBuilt Hawaii is a roofing contractor working across Oʻahu, Maui and Kauaʻi. We install and service roofing, rain gutters and solar attic ventilation, on homes and on commercial buildings. We are proudly locally owned and operated. Lic. CT-36274 (Oʻahu) · Lic. C-34939 (Maui & Kauaʻi). The Opportunity This seat runs the business day to day. Production, project management, the customer service office and estimating all report through it, which makes the Director of Operations the highest point a problem travels before it reaches the executive team. It also owns the customer's experience from the signed contract through warranty, because a customer who has a great experience with us is a customer for our other trades. Crew escalations, customer escalations, the larger change orders and the collections that stall all land here. One seat underneath this one is open, so part of the first year is hiring into it. The reason to take it is that the company is growing on three islands and the operating standard is being set now. Leadership writes the standard operating procedures; this seat runs the team to them, finds where they break and brings that back. We are looking for an operator first and a roofer second, so a strong general manager from another industry has a path here. This role reports to the COO and is based on Oʻahu, on site every day. What You'll Own ● The customer experience after the sale. From the signed contract to job completion, warranty and service. How crews behave on the customer's property, the reviews we earn, and whether the experience is smooth enough that the customer hires us again. This is an operating job, not a sales one. ● The production number and labor cost. Weekly production dollars, cash collected against them, and margin visibility across open jobs, bids and submittals. Labor cost validated and held every week, piece rate or hourly: you review and approve labor before payroll and question anything that does not match the work. ● Crew oversight and safety. Coaching foremen and crew leads, crew conduct on the job, training current, meetings held on schedule, and the standard enforced on a roof when enforcing it costs a day. ● Escalation. Customer and crew problems resolve at your desk. Project managers handle the crew and foreman layer; anything above them stops with you. Anything with legal exposure goes up to leadership quickly. ● The standard. Roles and responsibilities defined across the team and people held to them. The team runs to the written procedures, the same on Kauaʻi as on Oʻahu, and you report back where they break. ● Business-unit finance. Invoicing, card payments and collection calls run through the office under your review. A collection that stalls becomes yours. ● Fleet and equipment. Vehicles registered, inspected and maintained inside a tracked system rather than somebody's memory. ● The team. Weekly one-on-ones, formal reviews, and the harder conversation when someone is not performing. You own who stays on the bench underneath you. What We're Looking For Required ● Multi-unit, branch or regional operating responsibility over a sizable team and a number they owned. ● A customer-facing operation with high throughput. Hospitality, restaurant, retail, home improvement, distribution and logistics all count. ● Has owned the customer experience in a service business, with reviews or customer satisfaction as a number they answered for. ● Has recruited and hired their own team rather than inheriting one, and has removed someone who was not performing. ● Has managed labor cost against production, piece rate or hourly, and caught the sheet that did not add up. ● Comfortable with a P&L. Understands labor, cost of goods, and how a job makes money. ● Runs a weekly operating rhythm and holds it when the week gets hard. ● Runs a team to a written process and holds people to it. Disciplined about CRM and data hygiene, for themselves and for their team. ● Has handled escalations with stakes attached: subcontractor failures, settlements, insurance, attorneys. ● Based on Oʻahu or willing to relocate, on site every day, with the ability to travel to Maui and Kauaʻi. Strongly Preferred ● Construction, roofing or building trades experience. ● Four or more years of supervisory experience in roofing within the last ten, which is what qualifies a Responsible Managing Employee in Hawaiʻi. ● Experience operating across more than one island or more than one site. ● OSHA 30, or the standing to serve as the competent person for fall protection. Roofing experience is preferred and not required. We would rather hire an operator who can learn the trade than a roofer who has never run a business. Our Commitment ProBuilt Hawaii is committed to building a team that reflects the communities we serve across the islands. We believe diverse perspectives make for better decisions, stronger companies, and a more durable platform. We actively seek candidates from a wide range of backgrounds, identities, and life experiences, and we work to keep our process fair, transparent, and human. We are an equal opportunity employer.
